What looks like a day of Montel?Â
A typical day, no, but I'll give you my perfect day! We start the morning with a gentle stroll to skate the streets of Panama. My favorite runs are in the 20th ... 11 am: I weasel in the vinyl bins of good shops in NY. Lunch: a small menu of Dim Sum in Hong Kong. Afternoon: jam in studio in Puerto Rico with Hector Lavoe and some other big missing. Jimi Hendrix, lead guitar, Joe Strummer on rhythm, Keith Moon on drums, Jam Master Jay with guest and yours truly on bass! Dinner: some tacos in Tijuana. Evening: a good club in Berlin!Â
What are your influences in music, film and literature?Â
In music, I'm pretty bulimic then there's everything in my influences: rock, hip-hop, pop, punk, jazz, salsa, electronica, metal ... Until the disco and even country! For the film, I would mention Sergio Leone, Gondry and Spike Jonze. And in literature, my references are Celine, Philip K Dick, Garcia Marquez.Â
What relationship do you maintain with the Internet?Â
I am a little addict I think it is a source of unlimited information ... Fortunately that did not exist when I was a teenager! (for younger: mean 15-20 years ago, and not in the 50s ...)Â
Where did you get your passion for skating and you still practice?Â
I started skating at 12 years and I never stopped! Despite the injuries and the fact it feels a little lonely at the skatepark in excess of 30 banks ... It really is a passion and it has influenced me for many things, for example I discovered a lot of music in skate videos. It is a way of life too, you spend much time in the street and I met many people through it.Â
How do you explain your musical orientation more similar to English?Â
My mother is German so I grew up with two languages, and once I learned English quite easily. By listening to Run DMC and the Dead Kennedys! And most of my musical references are Anglo-Saxon, with some exceptions. That said, my first album in 2007 was almost entirely in French. To summarize, it looked like a mix of electronica and song texts. But lately, I'm more pop music and English is better suited to that.Â
What is your favorite food?Â

Montel est un gars à part, il écrit et compose ses sons, est toujours à la recherche d'une accroche originale, et de beats éléctros déjantés. Le premier titre de lui que j'ai écouté m'a mis une bonne claque dans la gueule c'est portrait de l'artiste en skater », même si je suis pas skater, ça me parle, les spots de glisse à Paris (bon j'avoue j'ai fait du roller, mais c'est pas la même chose). C'est original, pas du déjà vu et entendu, et sa nouvelle direction un peu plus mélodique en anglais n'augure que du bon pour les prochaines prods de Montel ce compositeur-chanteur talentueux.
Bio
Artiste inclassable, Montel a des origines aussi diverses que ses influences : de l’Allemagne à la Colombie, on passe ainsi du rock au hip-hop et à l’electro. Bassiste et chanteur, il jongle avec les langues et les styles musicaux depuis une bonne dizaine d’années.
Après avoir été le MC du groupe Node/Metropolis, fondé à Paris (un maxi vinyle un titre sur la compilation ‘Arôme’ du Barbara Bui Café en 1999), Montel décide à partir de 2003 de travailler sur un projet plus personnel. En 2006, le titre ‘Disco King, hommage irrévérencieux à la old school du hip-hop, paraît sur la bande originale des ‘Poupées Russes’ de Cédric Klapisch (grâce à la complicité de Loïk Dury, ex-DJ de Nova, et de son label Kraked). Il est suivi en juin 2007 par ‘Dans mes rêves’, premier album solo réalisé pour le label indépendant Discordian Records, malheureusement disparu depuis.
Aujourd’hui, Montel peaufine son plan d’invasion mondiale avec le ‘Freeway Lights EP’, distribué par le nouveau weblabel parisien SillMuzik.com. Après un premier album en français, les morceaux sont cette fois dans la langue de Shakespeare…SO CHECK IT OUT!
